Hide and lock text files in Windows

Need to password-protect or lock important or confidential files on your computer? I normally tend to save my passwords, account numbers, and user names in a text file on my computer, but it’s horribly prone to hackers. If you’re using Notepad like me to store all this highly sensitive information, you’re taking a big risk.

I’ve previously written about other methods to protect the data on your computer, mostly focused on creating a secure or protected Windows folder:

Protecting a directory might be useful in many circumstances, but it’s also useful sometimes to just encrypt or lock a single file. In this case, the above methods are simply too much extra work and not needed.

That’s where you can use a nifty little program called LockNote to replace Notepad when you want to create secure and locked text files. Using LockNote, you can protect your files with double security: AES 265-bit encryption and password protection.

Once installed, type in whatever you want into the text area and then go to File and choose Save As. Pick a location and click Save and then type in a password to protect your file.

You’ll notice that the file that is saved ends with an .EXE extension, which is for an application. The file is encrypted so even if someone gets a hold of the file, they will not be able to view the contents unless they know the password.

When you double-click on the file, you’ll be prompted for the password:

The other cool feature of LockNote is that you can convert any of your current text files create from Notepad or wherever into a secure LockNote file by simply dragging and dropping the file onto the main interface. That means if you already have a few important files, there is no need to copy and paste it into LockNote, just drag the file into the text area.

You’ll get a message asking you if you want to convert the file into a secure file, so click Yes. Then type in a password for the file to protect it. Make sure that your passwords are long and secure so that they cannot be hacked.

Finally, the program is a stand-along executable, meaning there is no installation required. You can copy the EXE file onto your USB stick and carry it around with you anywhere. Enjoy!

Remove and delete desktop wallpapers

Want to know how to delete wallpapers from your Windows machine? If you have ever changed your wallpaper in Windows, you’ve probably noticed the ridiculous number of useless wallpapers that are already stored in the system. I have NEVER used any of the built in wallpapers and therefore wanted to figure out how to delete them permanently!


If you right-click on the Desktop and go to Properties to open the Display Properties and then click on Desktop, you’ll get a list of all the backgrounds you can use for your desktop:

I hate the fact that it’s preloaded with 20 IBM ThinkPad wallpapers of various resolutions! They all look terrible and I only need one anyway, not 20! Too bad there is no delete button to quickly remove desktop wallpapers from the list.

So how do you delete wallpapers and clear up your background list? Well, you can go to the folder where the files are stored and manually delete them! Here’s how.

How to remove desktop wallpapers

In Windows XP, there are a few locations where these annoying wallpapers are stored. The first place is

C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper

Once you are there, you’ll see the typical wallpapers that come with XP, i.e. Ascent, Autumn, Bliss, etc. Change the view to Thubmnails to see the pictures.

Now you can happily press the DELETE button and wipe out all of these images. If you think you may actually want to use them again, you can also just cut them and paste them into some other location. Just copy them back later on to have them show up on the list again.

But that’s not all! I realized that after doing this there were still a bunch more wallpapers that dated back to wondows2000, i.e. Feature Texture, Greenstone, Sante Fe Stucco, and other horrible looking wallpapers.

These are store in the following location and have to be deleted manually also:

C:\Windows

Yes there are a bunch that are simply in the Windows directory. Make sure to be careful here are there are also many important files stored in the Windows directory and you don’t want to delete them. Note that you are only wanting to delete .BMP files, so everything else should be left alone.

I would suggest viewing the directory in Thumbnails mode and then slowly browsing through and deleting the wallpapers as you see them.

As you can see, there are four wallpapers with a .BMP file extension and I am sure because I am in thumbnail view and can see the designs. If you have an IBM laptop, all of those ”Think Americas” wallpapers are stored in this same directory.

And just for the sake of knowledge, you can also manipulate or delete the Internet Explorer Wallpaper, which is located in

C:\Documents and Settings\akishore\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

There’s really no reason to mess with that wallpaper, but I figured you just might want to know where it is stored. So that’s how you can delete the wallpapers from your Windows machine so that they don’t appear in your Backgrounds list anymore. Enjoy!

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.



We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?



You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.



English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. You lovers of the English language might also enjoy this: There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word.



That is 'UP.' It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be Opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed-UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4thof the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many Ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP .When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP .

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP , for now my time is UP!!

EIGHT LIES OF A MOTHER

1.The story began when I was a child;
I was born as a son of a poor family.
Even for eating, we often got lack of food.
Whenever the time for eating, mother often gave me her portion of rice.
While she was removing her rice into my bowl,
she would say "Eat this rice, son. I'm not hungry".
That was Mother's First Lie


2.When I was getting to grow up,
the persevering mother gave her spare time for fishing in a river near our house,
she hoped that from the fishes she got,
she could gave me a little bit nutritious food for my growth.
After fishing, she would cook the fishes to be a fresh fish soup,
which raised my appetite. While I was eating the soup,
mother would sit beside me and eat the rest meat of fish,
which was still on the bone of the fish I ate.
My heart was touched when I saw it.
I then used my chopstick and gave the other fish to her.
But she immediately refused it and said "Eat this fish, son.
I don't really like fish."
That was Mother's Second Lie.

3.Then, when I was in Junior High School,
to fund my study,
mother went to an economic enterprise to bring some used-matches boxes that would be stuck in.
It gave her some money for covering our needs.
As the winter came,
I woke up from my sleep and looked at my mother who was still awoke,
supported by a little candlelight and within her perseverance she continued
the work of sticking some used-matches box.
I said, "Mother, go to sleep, it's late,
tomorrow morning you still have to go for work.
" Mother smiled and said "Go to sleep,
dear. I'm not tired."
That was Mother's Third Lie.

4.At the time of final term,
mother asked for a leave from her work in order to accompany me.
While the daytime was coming and the heat of the sun was starting to shine,
the strong and persevering mother
waited for me under the heat of the sun's shine for several hours.
As the bell rang, which indicated that the final exam had finished,
mother immediately welcomed me and poured me a glass of tea
that she had prepared before in a cold bottle.
The very thick tea was not as thick as my mother's love,
which was much thicker. Seeing my mother covering with perspiration,
I at once gave her my glass and asked her to drink too.
Mother said "Drink, son. I'm not thirsty!".
That was Mother's Fourth Lie.

5.After the death of my father because of illness,
my poor mother had to play her role as a single parent.
By held on her former job, she had to fund our needs alone.
Our family's life was more complicated. No days without sufferance.
Seeing our family's condition that was getting worse,
there was a nice uncle who lived near my house came to help us,
either in a big problem and a small problem.
Our other neighbors who lived next to us saw that our family's life was so unfortunate,
they often advised my mother to marry again. But mother,
who was stubborn, didn't care to their advice,
she said "I don't need love."
That was Mother's Fifth Lie.

6.After I had finished my study and then got a job,
it was the time for my old mother to retire.
But she didn't want to; she was sincere to go to the marketplace every morning,
just to sell some vegetable for fulfilling her needs.
I, who worked in the other city, often sent her some money to help her in fulfilling her needs,
but she was stubborn for not accepting the money.
She even sent the money back to me.
She said "I have enough money."
That was Mother's Sixth Lie.

7.After graduated from Bachelor Degree,
I then continued my study to Master Degree.
I took the degree, which was funded by a company through a scholarship program,
from a famous University in America .
I finally worked in the company. Within a quite high salary,
I intended to take my mother to enjoy her life in America .
But my lovely mother didn't want to bother her son,
she said to me "I'm not used to."
That was Mother's Seventh Lie.

8.After entering her old age,
mother got a flank cancer and had to be hospitalized.
I, who lived in miles away and across the ocean,
directly went home to visit my dearest mother.
She lied down in weakness on her bed after having an operation.
Mother, who looked so old, was staring at me in deep yearn.
She tried to spread her smile on her face;
even it looked so stiff because of the disease she held out.
It was clear enough to see how the disease broke my mother's body,
thus she looked so weak and thin.
I stared at my mother within tears flowing on my face.
My heart was hurt, so hurt, seeing my mother on that condition.
But mother, with her strength, said "Don't cry, my dear.
I'm not in pain."
That was Mother's Eight Lie.

The Latest LG Phones of 2008 - Enjoy the freshness

When the year 2008 came LG had already introduced many unique and innovative mobile phones that enchanted us. As of this date the “latest” phones which are the most exciting of the lot would be the LG KF510 Touch Slider and the LG KF750 Secret. This is a phenomena, one of it’s kind the year has seen. Never-seen features make it a remarkable entity and it is quite a treat to use and handle as well. Released in July 2008, I think it should be a rage as soon as lands up in the hands of any mobile user.

Why shouldn’t the public love this marvel. It’s got so many things in it which make me go crazy and it is a guess that many more crazy fanatics are to come after me. Lets us go over some of it’s features. It’s got a 1600 x 1200 pixels camera for instance, one which is not only a fun to use, but is also extremely advanced. There are fantastic themes available and this phone is basically a touch screen type. The phone has a shared memory of 15 MB, which can be expanded up to 4 GB with the help of a microSD(TransFlash) memory card. Another major feature of this phone is that it has GPRS and Blue tooth as well. Now that is some handset. The next in the list is the fantastic flavour of LG called the LG KT 610. this is also another treasure trove. Released in may 2008 this phone has a 2G network and a 3G network. The OS is a symbian operating system ver9.2. It has a 2 mega pixel camera and a GPS receiver. This one has voice command /dial system and is thus quite a wonder. These are two very good phones of 2008 and LG has done a fantastic job in creating these two eye-poppers. A must have and certainly highly desirable the 2 LG’s are both phenomenons. When I talked about this phone having a 2G network and a 3G network, I forgot to add one thing. Under the 2G network the LGKT 610 has the options of GSM 900/1800/1900 and under the 3G network it has HSDPA 2100. Well that is sure to turn many heads in the direction of this phone in any mobile outlet. Thus the latest phones of the year 2008 according to me would be these two phenomenons- the LG KS 630 and the LG KT 610.
